Security from violence begins at home

Human security begins at home.  It is, or it should be, the first place where people can feel safe and secure. It is time for our caring catholic captain and his cabinet to examine a few basic facts – un-muddied by political massaging.

How many people have lost their lives through public terrorism in Australia in the past 12 months, and how much has been spent on National Security to combat this?  On the other hand, how many lives have been lost and how much physical, emotional and financial pain endured by women (and very few men) through domestic violence “terrorism”?  More importantly, how much does the Commonwealth spend to combat domestic violence?

Such facts would compellingly reveal that Mr Abbott prefers to scaremonger the public and divert scarce resources into National Security for political gain rather than confront the problem of domestic violence where 99% of the fatalities through “terrorism” occur.

Perhaps the recent death of a respected high-profile male, Phil Walsh, allegedly through an act of family (or domestic) “terrorism” might convince Mr Abbott that his political priority in addressing National terrorism rather than domestic terrorism is an abrogation of his responsibility towards the women of this nation.
