As death tolls rises, ministers knowingly responsible

To: Prime Minister, Mr Malcolm Turnbull: Yet another refugee has suicided on Nauru. What is your policy? To wait until all the refugees on Manus Island and Nauru, one way or another, are dead and then to proclaim “Mission Accomplished”?

Your claim to be ‘Stopping the Boats’ is an outright lie. More than two years ago you stated that you had deployed a massive Australian naval force in the seas between Australia and Indonesia so that no more boats could possibly come.

If you and your government had given a fraction of the billions of dollars – which you have spent on maintaining your death camps on Manus Island and Nauru – to the Indonesian government to assist them with coping with the refugees who they are supporting, there would be no “boat people”.

There would be a strong case for bringing you and Dutton before the Australian courts on charges of manslaughter – both of you, at the highest level, abrogated your duty of care to the man who died and, as a result, you are responsible for his death – and for contravening Australian laws relating to torture. On an international level, you and your government are in breach of the UN Convention on Refugees and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is absolutely ludicrous that Australia occupies a seat on the UN Human Rights Council.

You, Minister Dutton and former Immigration Minister Scott Morrison are a disgrace to the Australian people and the Australian Parliament. The obscene fact is that all three of you claim to be devout Christians and regularly espouse your Christian beliefs on the floor of the House. A less Christian group of men has not been in Parliament for a long, long time, if ever.

The stain that you and your government have brought to the Australian people and the Australian nation will never be erased.
