Cost of defence should be re-examined

Editor, The West Australian – In response to your report “Rayney found not guilty” TWA 2 November 2012: I have read the judge’s findings and I support his constructive criticism of the law enforcement agency, and it’s beyond my comprehension why the DPP decided to prosecute Rayney when there was no credible evidence to connect him to the crime. Also, it’s a shame on all sides of politics that when people maintain their innocence in the Supreme Courts, they are lumbered with substantial costs in defending themselves. It’s time that State Parliament set up a bipartisan committee to investigate extending the Defendants Cost Act to the Superior Courts.
