The ACLU is a major guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed every citizen by the Constitution and US law. Its State chapters are also very active in fighting for freedom locally.  The ACLU has more than 350,000 members.

European Court of Human Rights

The Court is an international court based in Strasbourg, France. Its judges examine complaints (known as “applications”) from individuals or, sometimes, by the member States (that is, countries of the European Union). The Court delivers a judgment, which is binding: the countries concerned are are obliged to comply.

NZCCL – The New Zealand Council for Civil Liberties is a watchdog for rights and freedoms in New Zealand. The Council works through education and advocacy to promote a rights-based society and prevent the erosion of civil liberties by government or any other parties. It is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation.


Tech Liberty of NZ is concerned about the erosion of people’s civil liberties in the digital world. We don’t think that we give up our traditional rights as soon as we do something on the Internet rather than on paper.
