Tasmanians are enjoying the option to choose a wave of progressive legislation – same-sex marriage, voluntary-assisted dying and abortion reform – as the Labor/Greens coalition government turns promises into legislative proposals. The signs are also good for a possible new ‘Right to Appeal’ law, to mirror the new one in South Australia. These were some of the positive findings of an intensive 15-day CLA visit to help boost civil liberties awareness in the island State.
