Willing to help Australia be more humane

I have no background in legal things, however I am sure what the current Liberal government is doing to boat arrivals is inhumane and illegal. I believe that the Liberal government has untenable policies and in order to implement them has given the public a monster to be afraid of, aka people in a desperate situation who can either undertake a life risking journey in the hope of finding asylum or risk death, persecution and complete dehumanisation by staying where they are.

That these poor people are being treated like criminals and locked up in concentration camps debases all Australians. Since the Abbott government is intransigent on this issue is it possible to protest and at least get these poor people taken in by a humane country? Why must they languish in Australian gulags while the bureaucrats dither in their air conditioned offices?

Can we find ordinary Australians who can have a refugee family live with them while their claims are processed? The government can give these Australians half of what it cost to keep a refugee in captivity to help with living costs and I for one would be willing to do this for women and children. I just can’t bear to see these already traumatised people subjected to incarceration.
