Can we trust forensic evidence?

Is forensic science accurate? Not always, say a group of US scientists who want more rigorous research to prove the veracity of fingerprint, bite mark and screwdriver point comparisons – among other techniques – that produce ‘evidence’ used to send people to jail for many years.

The above article sparked a CLA member’s memory of an item in New Scientist which also quoted the US National Academy of Sciences report.
