A man with a blood alcohol level more than five times the legal limit was hit by a car while walking his three-legged dog at West Beach in Adelaide.
The man was walking his dog on Burbridge Rd when he stepped onto the road and was hit by a car.
The West Beach man, 36, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with shoulder and non-life threatening head injuries.
The injured man was breath tested by police and allegedly returned a blood alcohol level of 0.287 – more than five times the legal limit for driving.
He was given an on-the-spot fine for moving into the path of a vehicle and police took the dog to a vet.
The dog should make a full recovery.
"More importantly the pedestrian, a vulnerable road user, is lucky to be alive and provides a timely reminder not to walk on or near roads when intoxicated," police said.
