In the Palm Island case, the coroner found the fatal blow by a police officer probably occurred when the man was comatose. If police are permitted to assault an unconscious person, leading to death, without facing any legal charge whatsoever, then the community where that occurs no longer enjoys what Australians have traditionally understood to be the rule of law.
