Victorian public servants in one department have lost 77 laptop computers, worth $220,000, in less than four years. None of the laptops have been recovered, The Age reported.
The Department of Primary Industry has 25,000 staff.
Energy and Resources Minister Peter Batchelor, in an answer to Parliament, revealed the computers were stolen or lost between January 2006 and October 2009.
He also admitted that the laptops could contain sensitive information, but said it was unlikely the data could be accessed because of ”password protection”.
