Those around in Darwin in previous years may have been bored by my persistent call for authorities to ask or explain WHY the Japs bombed Darwin on that particular day, 19 Feb 1942. Being yearly more elderly, this year I have not raised the issue – until today (too late) but haven’t heard anyone this year mention – gasp – East Timor!The fact is that Darwin was bombed with the sole (or by far, the main) purpose to ensure no military assets were deployed from Darwin against the Japanese while they invaded Timor on the same and next day.
I still think this is worthy of mention and explanation!
